While nearby restaurants are half empty, people will wait hours for a table at this Leeds based institution. After 30 years Salvo’s is more popular than ever. Cash-strapped students drop in for affordable but extremely good pizza, while others splash out on fancier fare such as slow-braised beef in red wine with truffled potato cake. A decent wine list starts at £13.95. Those in the know opt for Salumeria, John and Gip Dammone’s deli a few doors away at 109 Otley Road, which becomes a wonderfully intimate restaurant by night. Their set menus, themed by region, are genuine feasts.
