It may look like any other lasagne but it is an Italian delicacy with a difference. For customers choosing the Pasta Casalingha at Leeds restaurant Salvo's will not only enjoy a classic dish but also help a local hospice.
Bosses at the Headingley eaterie wanted to help nearby Sue Ryber Care's Wheatfield Hospice and so decided to introduce a special dish which for every portion sold will see 50p donated to the hospice.
Pasta Casalingha, which was dreamt up by Salvo's co-owner Gip Dammone, combines baked lasagne with Neapolitan sausage, mozzarella and a rich tomato sauce and is already proving popular with diners.
John Dammone, co-owner of Salvo's, said they felt a special link to Wheatfields it opened in 1976 - the same year as the restaurant and "The dish has been a genuine response from people who like the idea that in their own way they are making a contribution to an extremely worthwhile cause."
Samatha Cheverton (Wheatfields hospice manager - pictured above with John) said: "It is a wonderful thing that Salvo's are doing and it is very generous of them. It is helping us enormously and the people of Leeds are supporting us by coming here."
