Entry to guest book :: I'm inspired to write to say thank you for the best tasting gluten-free pizza base I have ever tasted! It has such a good texture and is chewy - just like it should be and like I remember it before being coeliac. What a treat and thanks again. When you follow a gluten-free diet you miss so many tastes, textures and flavours from before, good pizza is something I had trained myself not to expect to eat again...but now I am sure I will be trying out lots of different toppings.

Getting variety into the diet is a problem so its good news when new products that is this good comes onto the market. Thanks also to Gip and the salumeria for introducing me to this and for best gluten-free pasta/menu during gluten-free awareness week.

Entry to guest book : We dined at the Salumeria last night for the Sicilian Regional Dinner and just wanted to thank you for the most fantastic evening. The food was sublime, the atmosphere was great and the service was brilliant. Its so rare to be served by enthusiastic waiters who know and care such a lot about the food that they are serving. They are a credit to you and we were extremely impressed. We can't wait to get booked in for the next one. Thank you!

Entry to guest book : We lived next door to Mr and Mrs Dammone and family for a short time and I still iron my shirts the Nunzia way!  I celebrated my 16th Birthday at Salvo's and then my 17th and 18th followed by my 28th and 30th and then yesterday my 40th!!!  Despite our growing numbers you still managed to accommodate us and you were still all smiling at the end.  The Toolies all remembered Pinuccio and his singing and of course we were all really fond of Gip the Jeep and Johnny but Mums favourite was Lucci and my favourite was Salvo and I'm sure even though I am now 40 he would have still tousled my hair!!

Entry to guest book : Dear Salvo's - I came across your website by accident, when searching for Italian restaurants in London - and so many happy memories came back to me.  I visited Salvo's between 1976 and 78 - and loved it SO much.  I remember queuing in the freezing cold outside waiting for one of the precious tables - and Salvo coming outside to bring us drinks - so that there was a party outside as well as in.  I remember the friendship inside and sharing tables with strangers, and on Saturday and Sunday lunch times the wonderful mix of all ages of people - especially children and babies.  And, of course, the wonderful food and wine.  A resolution for 2008 is to visit Leeds and Salvo's again. Love from Jayne

Entry to guest book : My beautiful girlfriend and I visited Salvo's last saturday 26/01/08 and I can hand on heart say it is one of the best restaurants i have ever been to. We had to wait a while for our table, but we didn't mind this at all due to the friendly, helpful service and lovely atmosphere. The kitchen workers and floor staff all seemed relaxed despite a busy time. The floor staff did a fantastic job of making a birthday special. Although neither of us were celebrating ours, it certainly put a smile on our faces as we felt obliged to sing along to the unique celebrations. The food was excellent, and was good value for money. Overall an excellent experiance and we shall definitely return.

Entry to guest book: Dear Gip, John & Luc

Thank you for all your hard work to make our wedding feast so sumptuous. The food was brilliant – everyone commented on it “It’s the best food I’ve had at a wedding”, sharing the starters was a stroke of genius and got everyone chatting.

Throughout the whole process of planning the food we found you to be personable, professional and creative as well as being incredibly thorough.

With so many other things to think about while planning the wedding it was wonderful to be able to entrust the food to you with complete confidence.

Thank you once again – you do a fantastic job.

getting. He needs to eat less and do more exercise but how many times I
tell him he finds something new and just keeps eating whatever he sees

Entry to guest book:Dear John & Gip,

I just wanted to thank you, and all your staff on the evening, for making Wednesday night such a great success. Everyone I’ve spoken to said how much they enjoyed the food, wine and the great atmosphere of the place. I also think you’re getting a bit good the ‘wine patter’; you’ll be putting Simon out of a job soon.

I though I’d pass on a few comments made by friends:

I think you get the gist…All the best and we’ll speak soon, Martin

Entry to guest book: Dear Gip and John, This is just a short note to say thank you for providing such wonderful hospitality for my guests at my birthday party last night. The service, the food, and the wine as well as the ambience, were all excellent. A few of the guests had not eaten at Salvo's before and were very impressed by the standard. Many said that they were certain to return! Anyway thanks again, for making everything so easy for me and for providing such an excellent dining experience for me and my guests.

Regards, Tom Burden

Entry to guest book: Gip, Thank you for providing the food for my dinner party last Friday. I realise it was just a small event by your standards, but done to the highest standard in terms of service and food quality. My guests were very impressed and thought it was a great idea.  All had, of course, eaten at Salvo's previously.  I trust my recommendations in and around the University will lead to more custom for you. Best wishes, Dr Robert Gee

Entry to guest book: Many thanks for providing our group with such a magnificent experience at your restaurant yesterday evening. Apart from those who thanked me last night I have had several more calls today.

I think it reassures people (like myself even) who would not normally opt for an Italian meal, if venturing into a restaurant at all, that you and your staff do take our problem seriously. You have probably gained several more regular customers, and we are planning to ask you to do it all again, perhaps in the springtime. Please thank Gip, John and all the staff who looked after us last night - it was certainly very much appreciated.

Entry to guest book: We were delighted that Gip and John agreed to our request to host our Wedding Reception....a first for Salvo's (we think). The care they took in planning the menu based on their regional dinner menus with variations we requested ensured an evening to be enjoyed by all. The Salumeria provided a perfect family wedding venue bedecked by dazzling floral decorations provided by the 'in house' florist. Guests were welcomed at the Restaurant for a drinks and canapes at about 6.00pm before retiring to the Salumeria where ten (or was it eleven) superb courses satisfied the palates of a wide variety of discerning guests who continue to wax about 'the best wedding reception we've ever attended', 'we have not stopped telling our friends about the wonderful evening' and 'what sensational food and service'. Courses were perfectly timed and the wine flowed freely (one guest has commented that he only had "one glass all evening because I never had chance to empty it before it was refilled!!"). We all left the Salumeria at about 11.00pm having had a fantastic evening which marked the end of a wonderful day. Thanks to all the staff and Gip and John.

Entry to guest book:I would like to put on record how delighted I was to have Salvo's cater for my 50th birthday party at home, bringing absolutely everything necessary with them (plates, cutlery, glasses, coffee machine etc etc) to ensure a fantastic evening. From initial discussions about menus and organisation,  through to delivery and serving  of the food, and ensuring our guests were well supplied with wine etc to clearing up and washing up - EVERYTHING  was first class. Gip Salvo was incredibly helpful throughout, and Luke, the restaurant manager and waitress Karen served our guests with great style and humour.

IIt goes without saying, given it was Salvo's, that the food was quite superb - a fantastic array of antipasti, fresh seafood and other classic Italian starters, followed by 3 hearty and very generously portioned main coarses, all so very tasty, followed by luscious puddings and a cheeseboard. Our guests without exception, thought it the most fantastic evening, made very special by the care, attention and style of everyone involved from Salvo's. The presentation on the table of the food was so good I had to take photo's before everyone tucked in - it was that amazing! Above all it was Salvo's friendliness, enthusiasm and passion for good food and service that made it so memorable.
Many thanks to all concerned - it was wonderful to involve at home, my local Italian restaurant, where I have been going to eat off and on for the last 30 years, in my half century celebrations - I commend the idea to everyone else out there!

Entry to guest book:Together with a friend I used to run the Rhythm & Blues Club on Thursday nights at the Blue Gardenia (BGs). I remember putting on The Four Tops, The Steam Packet (Rod Steward, Long John Baldry, Julie Driscoll, Brian Auger Trinity).  We also had Joe Cocker's Big Blues who were absolutely stunning.  His fee was £15 but we only took £13 due to really poor weather... and had to send him a postal order.  Ah those were the days of real music!

Entry to guest book: Saturday lunchtime - where to go with the family? Instead of the tortuous trip to McDonald's, I thought it was time for Steven (our 5 year old son) to experience a more pleasurable environment at Salvo's.  He was kept happy with the opportunity to do some colouring whilst his Spag Bol was being freshly prepared and also enjoyed looking at the new mirrors.  Not only did he savour the food - somehow finding space for the pud - but the relaxed atmosphere allowed us to enjoy our superb dishes.  Judging by the number of other parents with children, the Kid's menu seems to be a great hit.

No toy included  - but definitely a happy meal!

Entry to guest book: Both my daughter (3 years) and I have coeliac disease (unable to eat gluten). Going to an Italian restaurant up until now would have been impossible until we found Salvo's. Not only are you able AND willing to cater for our needs (including pizza and pasta!) the food is delicious, unlike the majority of places who profess to provide gluten free food.

We can't thank you enough for such a pleasurable dining experience. We tend to avoid eating out as it's so stressful but certainly will be regular visitors at Salvo's in the future. Keep up the good work Gip and staff, your customer service was second to none!

Entry to guest book: Hi friends at Salvo's, just to say a very big thank you for all the pleasure you have provided over the 30 years we have been your customer. Without fail we can be sure of great food, prepared and served by people who care, and a very warm welcome however busy you are. Your policy of no-booking is well justified as you have so many people prepared to cope with that despite all the competition that now exists - because even the waiting is convivial.

The only complaint I have is you spoil us for going anywhere else - wherever we try, we keep returning to the all round quality and warm hospitality of the Salvo's experience. Your restaurant has given us many great evenings and now we can have an equally good, though very different, time at your Salumeria - the "regional" evenings are memorable. A measure of what you mean to the family is that now it is our grandchildren who want to go to Salvo's for their birthdays! Very many thanks, Mike Scally

Entry to guest book: Well!  How did Salvo's not win an award at the first annual Leeds Restaurants Association dinner last night(Nov 16)?  Nominated for 3 awards but not quite making it when the envelopes were opened.  Out of all of the 80+ restaurants in the association only 3 others had as many nominations - Plush, Anthony's and Casa Mia.

John, along with Martin Pickles from the Flying Pizza and John Pallagi from Room were the drivers behind creating the new Association and the tremendous success of the scheme within one year from inception deserves a special award for all of them.  It is not surprising that Conde Nast Travellor Magazine calls Leeds the 'Best city for restaurants'.
